Over the past few years, the number and quality of travel projects on Kickstarter have exploded.
Once a hub for techy stuff, Kickstarter is now hosting all different sizes, and varieties of projects, and fast becoming THE go to place for starting up a new product or company.
We've toyed around with doing a Kickstarter exclusive product launch, and may still yet in the new year.
Not only is Kickstarter a great platform for travel startups to gain awareness, but it's also a win for avid travelistas who can get the inside scoop on the latest travel gear.
Below is our roundup of our favourite kickstarter travel projects.
Finally, stylish and versatile travel boots!
This NYC based eco-brand of vegan shoes, Bhava Studio, is leveraging Kickstarter to launch their newest and most innovative design, the Editor boot.
This 3-in-1 convertible boot is stylish, and practical. Made from vegan leather, handcrafted in Spain, the comfort 2" heel and interchangeable boot shaft transforms these from bootie to riding boot to knee high.
PS - Mention you heard of the campaign through us for some good karma in the universe! We love Bhava and wish them all the best in this active campaign.
The Space Case 1 takes luggage to the next level. This carry-on bag meshes technology + luggage.
The Space Case 1 features a biometric (yes, fingerprint) lock, global tracker, built in luggage scale, power charging station, bluetooth speakerphone, proximity sensor and concierge app. It's made from PolyCarbonate so it's lightweight, but definitely heavy in features.
Space Case 1 was funded for almost $1 million dollars, but you can drool over the luggage here, and hopefully order yours soon when they launch a website.
Do you remember the days in high school when you'd lay your head on the desk, and try to sleep? So uncomfortable.
Well, not if you have this!
The Ostrich Pillow. The sleep anywhere pillow which allows you to take a power nap anywhere -- at home, or on the road.
This pillow project is fully funded (raised almost $200k), and although I think it looks ridiculous, the appearance may be superseded by the comfort factor.
Remember Pajama jeans? This may just be the travel pillow version.
A fellow Canadian company, run by powerpreneur Joanna Griffiths, Knixwear is an underwear company that uses technical fabrics, to create beautiful yet high performance undergarments for women.
Their 8-in-1 Evolution bra is fully reversible, and the straps can be reconfigured many different ways. From the campaign, it looks like you can even wear it in the water (hello, bikini in a pinch!)
This project is still going for another 25 days, and is fully backed to the tune of $364k at the date of posting this blog. Congrats Ladies!
One of the 4th highest funded kickstarter campaigns EVER (Yes, they raised over $9 million dollars. Yep, 9 Million!!!)
This innovative travel hoodie/jacket has a built in neck pillow, drink holder, ipad pocket, hand warmers and more.
Already funded, and closed for funding (as I'm sure they scramble to fulfill orders!) but worth a look here.
What's your all-time fav kickstarter travel-related project? Leave it in the comments below!
