About Modal & MicroModal Fabric

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MODAL + MICROMODAL + ULTRA-LUXE?

These three fabrics are made from the same source - Beech Tree pulp.  Modal, notorious for being silky to the touch and finely knit, these fabrics are opaque and feel luxuriously soft against your skin.

MicroModal uses a finer ground cellulosic fibre allowing for a denser concentration of fibres in a single garment without adding weight. This gives MicroModal an even sleeker feel over its big sister Modal.

Ultra-Luxe uses a finer, silkier yarn knitting a more lightweight version of our Modal fabric. With an airy feel, Ultra-Luxe Modal has a more fluid drape over the body. This textile has a dressier look with a beautiful lustre when worn under certain lights.

WHERE IT’S FROM

Modal blends
Currently, we import the finished textiles from Korea, and China located just outside of Shanghai. The raw fiber is made in Austria. We hope in the future to be able to knit all of our fabrics in North America.

MicroModal blends
100% of our MicroModal blend is knit and dyed in Toronto, Canada.

CREATING MODAL AND MICROMODAL

Modal is derived from the inner pulp of beech trees. All processing is done in accordance with strict environmental standards including chemical free spinning and dying, rainwater for growth, and produces no toxic discharge.

One kilogram of beech pulp makes approximately one kilogram of Modal (a yield that is 10x higher than raw cotton). The tree will grow naturally on less than perfect land and reproduce itself without any human interaction, meaning there is no replanting required. Comparatively to cotton, Modal does not take away valuable land for growing food as it is a naturally occurring plant. All of our Modal fibres are from the world's leading producer, Lenzing Modal®. The difference with Lenzing Modal® versus other Modal is that it's created from a sustainably harvested forest in Austria, and neighbouring countries. Non-Lenzing Modal and cheaper Rayon is often made from clearcut forests.

When choosing Modal or Micromodal fabrics, it is easy to notice the softness over that of synthetic blends. Just like the difference between acetate and silk, the same can be felt for Modal and Cotton fabrics. This has also made Modal popular for uses in lingerie, sleep or loungewear, as well as baby clothing.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR MODAL CLOTHING

Washing your Modal Encircled clothing in cold water will extend its lifespan. Modal is shrink and wrinkle resistant, therefore the fit will remain throughout the garment lifespan after repeated washing when cared for properly.

To care for your Modal and MicroModal clothing, hand wash, or put into machine on gentle cycle. Avoid bleach. Always hang to dry. Never scorch or iron on high heat, this will damage the texture.
