4 Tips To Help You Cultivate A Kinder Closet
At Encircled we believe that becoming a more conscious consumer is about progress over perfection. For every person, building a sustainable wardrobe can mean completely different things. It could mean forgoing fast fashion, buying less fast fashion, building a capsule wardrobe or even shopping consignment. Maybe you combine these depending on the season or your budget or just stick to one option.
Either way, when first beginning to build a kinder closet, deciding where to start can be overwhelming. For those of you who are in the midst of a shift to an ethical closet or those who have wanted to but had no idea where to start - we decided to ask a few bloggers who are seasoned conscious shoppers for what worked best for them. Read their tips on how to do more with less and be kinder to the world through your closet.
SHOP PURPOSEFULLY
Start small and don’t try to overhaul your whole closet right away. Pick one section to focus on. Whether it’s your accessories, shoes, basics or activewear it’s best to begin with a defined starting point so you don’t get overwhelmed. From there, take it slow. Add thoughtfully and purposefully, always considering what you need and what you feel your best in. Keep a concise Wish List handy so you can refer back to it whenever you’re tempted to add something. Most importantly, have fun embracing a more thoughtful closet and enjoy the process of shopping responsibly!

A capsule wardrobe literally changed my life 3 years ago. Now that I use a capsule wardrobe, I spend less, love what I wear, have more confidence and have less stress in my life. Just be having your favorite clothes that you love to wear at your fingertips, you can put together outfits quickly. Set aside the time to take inventory of what you already own, and bookmark the things you are considering purchasing. By laying everything out visually side by side either on a pinterest board (or on your bedroom floor!), it helps to piece it all together to know what will work in a capsule wardrobe.

SHIFT YOUR PERSPECTIVE
One of my favourite ways to green up a closet is learning that less is more. Media is constantly pushing us to consume, but taking a step back and realising that we really don't need that many clothes can be life-changing. I'm learning this myself by creating a capsule wardrobe - there's something very liberating about the simplicity of having fewer options. Sound frustrating? Not when done properly. It's important to fill your capsule wardrobe with sustainably produced and versatile pieces, which is one of the reasons why I love Encircled. It makes mixing and matching so easy!
