New Years Resolution Planning How To

How to be a Goal Digger in 2015.

Do you make resolutions EVERY year only to not achieve any of them in the year?

Well, you're not alone. According to Forbes magazine, only 8% of us actually achieve our New Year's resolutions.

Why?

Well, I think there are a few things I've noticed over the years that friends, and family members do consistently that inhibits their goal achievement.

As one of the 8% who DID achieve my New Year's resolutions this year, I feel somewhat qualified to share my experience, and help you on the path to being a 'goal digger'.

Less is the New More + Balance is Everything

I often see people setting 10 New Year's resolutions. They're usually around money, or losing weight, or something career-wise. I am a huge fan of setting smaller, simpler goals across broader categories.

Here's an example. Instead of losing 20 pounds, stop eating chips, eating healthier, eating more vegetables, juicing every day, going to the gym 3-4 times a week minimum.

Why not pick one of the above?

By focusing on one goal at a time (especially when it comes to weight loss, or if you're new to working out), you can build quick wins faster which will motivate you possibly to ADD a New Year's resolution mid-way through the year.

Don't try to get it all done at once. Simplify.

Be Realistic

There is a difference between having a broader/inspirational vision for your life, and setting crazy-unrealistic-out there New Year's resolutions.

It all comes back to simplicity again. Setting smaller micro-goals will leave you wanting to set more later on. Want to quit your job?

Well, what's the first step of that process? If you're starting a business, a good goal might be to  'Setup your Business Operations by March 2015'.

A goal like quitting your job will also affect other goals like Money-related ones. So, you might want to set a specific goal tied to that 'career' goal in your Money bucket. Like, save 6 months salary by end of 2015.

Be Specific

Want to travel more? Well, where to?

Adding specificity to goals helps make them more real. And tangible.

Instead of 'travel more in 2015'. Travel to Thailand in November 2015.

There, now that's a goal!
